The Regional and Urban Design Committee of the American Institute of Architects and the University of South Florida have partnered to host Active City, a two-day conference exploring the impact of the built environment on public health. The Active City conference will take place on January 26 and 27, 2017 at the Tampa Convention Center.  It will feature tours, lectures, and panel presentations as part of a multidisciplinary exchange of ideas on how the intersection of health and urban design is shaping communities.  Active City includes special keynote presentations by leading experts, networking opportunities and an exhibition of poster competition submissions. 

 

Cities in the 21st century face a number of public health challenges and social inequities. An interest in building healthy communities has resurged among architects, planners, urban designers, landscape architects, public health officials, and policy makers. Communities around the country are asking how the health of a community is impacted by design?  The conference s sessions will expand on strategies for interdisciplinary practitioners to develop healthy places for all people. 

 

Active City is sponsoring a poster competition with the intent to select a winning poster design and three honorable mention submissions to use for promotional purposes about Active City. The winning submission will receive $150.00 award and three honorable mention submissions will be awarded $50.00.
