Description: | | Throughout her career, Ellen Rowe has been known as a ‘triple threat,’ being a remarkable pianist, composer, and educator. A professor at the University of Michigan for the past 20 years, she
previously founded the jazz program at Connecticut, where she was the world’s first female chair of a major university jazz department. Rowe’s USF appearance is a multi-disciplinary visit, growing from
her new recording, ‘Momentum – Portraits of Women in Motion.’ The album features an all-woman, all-star ensemble, playing Rowe’s pieces dedicated to inspirational figures in fields ranging from music
to athletics, and social justice to environmental preservation. As the ‘Momentum’ project is on tour, Ellen Rowe and the band mentor young artists, and engage with audiences on the message of the
music. |
