Preserved Stillness and Out Fishing, Gone for a Swim

Event Type: Exhibition
Facility: Carolyn M. Wilson Gallery
Presented By: School of Art & Art History
Description:
Preserved Stillness is a two person show including work by Mike Cannata, current USF MFA student and Molly Duff, USF MFA alumnae. The exhibition evokes the self-reflective and meditative aspects
of clay on the maker and includes large scale works in clay. Out Fishing, Gone for a Swim is a multi-media exhibition featuring current USF MFA students Lauren Gourgues, Michael Lonchar, Annabelle
Schafer, and Diana Sosnowska. This exhibition will explore themes related to memory, time, and perception. The title, Out Fishing, Gone for a Swim, combines two common phrases to shed line on
an unbalanced power dynamic - an innocent activity can present an exploitation of self. This is the subtext for much of the work, on the outside – many of the pieces have a relaxed atmosphere about
them but upon further investigation have a sinister layer hidden below. A reception will be held Friday, January 31st from 6-8pm. All Carolyn M. Wilson Gallery exhibitions and receptions are free and open
to the public. The gallery hours are Mon- Thurs, 11am-3pm. 3801 USF Holly Dr. Tampa, FL 33620. For reasonable accommodations, please contact Cassidy at 813-974-2360 or
cassidysantos@usf.edu.
