Latin American Conceptualism’s distinct agenda sets it apart from European and North American
models. The panel will discuss the movement’s cultural and historical context in the mid 20th century and its legacy and influence on contemporary global art, including that of David Lamelas included in
USFCAM's current exhibition The Talent Show.
Panelists:
Pablo Brescia, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Latin American Literature in the USF Department of World Languages. His areas of teaching and research are history and theory of Latin American short
fiction and 20th and 21st centuries Mexican and Southern Cone literatures and cultural histories.
César Cornejo, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor in the USF School of Art and Art History. His early interest in architectural abstract expression led to an intense preoccupation with integrating social elements in
sculpture as a means of communication.
Vanessa Diaz is a second year MFA student in the USF School of Art and Art History.
Adriana Novoa, Ph.D. is Associate Professor in the USF History Department. She is a cultural historian specializing in the history of science and medicine, history of gender/sexuality, and the
history of Latin America.
Noel Smith (Moderator) is Curator of Latin American and Caribbean Art at the USF Institute for Research in Art.
