New Korean Music: The Ensemble Collabo with Lee Gui-Sook |
Event Type: | | Music |
Facility: | | School of Music (MUS) |
Presented By: | | School of Music |
Description: | | The USF School of Music is pleased to present the Western Hemisphere premiere of one of the most
exciting new groups in Korea, the Ensemble Collabo. Growing out of a desire to experiment with new
ways of integrating the sonorities of Korean with Western instruments, this unique quintet combines
two Korean traditional instruments, the haegeum (a bowed instrument with two strings) and the
komungo (a six-string zither plucked with a wooded stick), with the sound of the Western viola, cello,
and piano. The five professional artists comprising the Ensemble Collabo will be performing the music
of Korean woman composer Lee Gui- Sook, who is one of the most prominent composers of music for
Korean traditional instruments in South Korea.
