Virtual Symposium - Bregando with Disasters: Post Hurricane Maria Realities and Resiliencies

This symposium is presented as part of the USF Contemporary Art Museum exhibition Constant Storm: Art From Puerto Rico and the Diaspora. The symposium is presented in two parts, the schedule is as follows: 

Entanglements of Disasters, 11:00 am – 12:15 pm
The morning session assembles scholars, artist and student perspectives for presentations and discussions regarding the entanglements of disasters, migration, trauma and resiliency experienced by Puerto Ricans from the archipelago and Floridian diaspora. Panelists include: Alessandra Rosa (Sociologist, Department of Sociology, USF); Jorge Duany (Cultural anthropologist, Global Sociocultural Studies, FIU); and Sofia Gallisá (Constant Storm artist, Artist-in-Residence). 

Lunch Break + Virtual Tour, 12:15 – 2:15 pm

Politics of Disasters, 2:15 – 3:30 pm
The afternoon session assembles scholars, artist and student perspectives for presentations and a panel discussion about the politics of statehood, colonialism, disasters, migration, and health experienced by Puerto Ricans from the archipelago and Floridian diaspora. Panelists include: Fernando Rivera (Sociologist, Department of Sociology, UCF; Carlos Suarez Carrasquillo (Political scientist, Department of Political Science, UF); and Natalia Lasalle-Morillo (Constant Storm artist, Artist-in-Residence).
