USF Jazztet: Bone Band I |
Event Type: | | Music |
Facility: | | School of Music (MUS) |
Presented By: | | School of Music |
Description: | | The USF Bone Band I will present a concert featuring 5 to six trombone players playing with Bass,
Guitar, and Drums. This mix of instruments has been a tradition in the Jazz Trombone World since
the 1950s, when JJ Johnson and Kai Winding put together a group and made recordings of classic
jazz tunes and some compositions written and arranged for this Ensemble. This has been carried on
by groups like "World of Trombones" with Slide Hampton, "Bonearama" out of New Orleans, and
"Capital Bones" out of Washington D.C., just to name a few. The USF Bone Band I and Bone Band
II has toured Europe and the area for the past ten years or so. This concert will feature works
composed and arranged by current students in the band as well as arrangements by Bob
Brookmeyer, JJ Johnson, and others.
