Description: | | Florida’s premiere professional concert band, the Florida Wind Band, will be presenting its annual holiday concert on December 13, 2010 in Theater One on the Tampa campus of the University of
South Florida, beginning at 8:00 pm. The program will feature not only holiday favorites, but also with music that could easily be associated with the season, either by title or by intention. Selections to be
performed will include: Children’s March by Percy Grainger, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by J. S. Bach, Christmas Music for Winds (a medley of seasonal favorites), Festival of Alfred Burt Carols,
Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, Prelude to Revelry by Gordon Jacob, and the Fantastic Toy Shop by Rossini.
Dr. John Carmichael, artistic director and conductor, will once again be on the podium, assisted by Dr. Matthew McCutchen, the associate conductor and guest conductor Kenneth Watts.
It is the mission of the Florida Wind Band to become the first fully professional, fully civilian wind band in American this century. Since there are about thirty plus million people in the U.S. who
have had some school band experience, and since many of those people have moved on various successful careers both in music and other areas, there would seem to be a large market for this kind
of entertainment.
Beginning at 6:30 pm prior to the concert, the Board of the FWB will be hosting a silent
auction. Many local businesses have kindly donated to this endeavor as a sign of support for the activity. Concertgoers will find a wide variety of items upon to place a bid. Real values for items run
from around $20.00 to over $1,000.00. The only qualification to become an active bidder will be an admission ticket to the concert. There will also be opportunity to participate in a half and half drawing.
