Steinway Piano Series: Danny Driver |
Event Type: | | Music |
Facility: | | School of Music (MUS) |
Presented By: | | School of Music |
Description: | | Claude Debussy and György Ligeti both re- imagined piano music in their own way, inspired by musical and extra-musical influences as diverse as they are fascinating. In this concert Danny Driver illustrates this by interweaving a selection of mature works by the two composers. Ligeti's Piano Études, composed during the 1980s and 1990s, draw on a broad range of world musics (such as gamelan, tribal African musics, and jazz) and mathematical principles. Debussy's two books of Images, with their celebration of pure sound freed from traditional forms and diatonicism, are as rooted in the composerâ?Ts native culture as they are inspired by the art objects and sounds from faraway places. |
