Spring Dance '08 |
Event Type: | | Dance |
Facility: | | Theatre 2 (THR) |
Presented By: | | School of Dance |
Description: | | This eclectic program of dance highlights the technical bravado of the USF dancers, as well as the engaging and sophisticated choreography of the evenings’ diverse professional artists.
Featured on the PBS science special ”WIRED Science”, the collaborative effort between art and technology is the inspiration of USF faculty member Merry Lynn Morris. Utilizing human transport
devices such as Segways, this piece entitled Blood Matrix will explore the fluid essence/motion of blood in its significance as a universal connector.
Visiting professor and former dancer with the Trisha Brown Dance Company, Mariah Maloney, has choreographed a new work based on the contemporary visual artist Frida Kahlo’s life and work.
DanceUSF faculty member Jeanne Travers’ choreography titled, Memories of the Stone, draws it’s inspiration from the ruins of Cathage in Tunisia.
USF professor John Parks has restaged excerpts from Donald McKayle’s Rainbow ‘Round my Shoulder. The piece focuses on the trials and fantasies of men working on a chain gang.
The performance also includes two works choreographed by talented USF dance majors whose work has been selected to be presented at the American College Dance Festival in March, 2008.
Each performance, 15 minutes before the show is to begin, we invite the audience to enter the theatre early and talk with one of our choreographers from the show.
Don’t miss this great evening of dance!
