The USF Jazztet and USF Jazz Ensemble I will present a joint concert on Feb 16.
USF Jazz Ensemble 1: The University of South Florida Jazz Ensemble I, under the direction of James Suggs, will present a concert featuring music from “The Village Vanguard Orchestra.” The Village Vanguard is one of the most important jazz clubs in NYC; they feature a very famous and legendary Monday Night Big Band series, which offers their resident big band performing contemporary jazz compositions. The Village Vanguard Orchestra, and the Monday Night concert tradition, was founded by the late jazz composer, trumpeter, and band leader Thad Jones along with his co-leader, the incomparable jazz drummer Mel Lewis. Jazz Ensemble I will perform the compositions of Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Jim McNeely, and other composers who have written for the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra on this February concert.
USF Jazztet: The USF Jazztet will perform a concert of classic small group jazz repertoire. The USF Jazztet is the premier small group in the USF Jazz Studies program and has represented USF in concerts at prestigious International Jazz Festivals over the last 25 years.
