USF Wind Ensemble: Romance in the Air

Event Type: Music
Facility: School of Music (MUS)
Presented By: School of Music
Description:
Symphony no. 3, by Vittorio Giannini, will be the centerpiece of the first concert given by the USF Wind Ensemble during Spring semester 2012. Giannini’s masterful contribution to the wind band
repertoire is a four-movement work that is not only challenging technically, but also representative of Neoromaticism which was the basis for Giannini’s musical language. Raised in an Italian family of
opera musicians, Giannini was saturated with the sounds of Puccini, Verdi and Rossini (and others). In keeping with the Romantic theme a taste for musical drama. Also featured on this concert will be
a Philip Sparke work that won an International composition award, Dance Movements. It , too, is Neoromatic in nature, making it both accessible and memorable. Hanedans, by Carl Nielsen is
another delightful work on the program. This is a dance from Nielsen’s noted opera, "Masquerade."
