Monday Night Jazz |
Event Type: | | Music |
Facility: | | Theatre 1 (TAT) |
Presented By: | | School of Music |
Description: | | One of the best-kept secrets at USF, the Monday Night Jazz Series welcomes acclaimed musicians to perform with the USF Jazz students and faculty on the last Monday of each month.
This concert is an Evening of Swedish Jazz with Jan Allan, Swedish jazz trumpeter. Sweden's Jan Allan is one of the masters of mainstream jazz trumpet playing.
Now in his 70's, he's recognised worldwide as one of the most sensitive and swinging horn players. He can make you think of Chet Baker, Ruby Braff and Clifford Brown, but he's always his own man.
Jan Allan is the featured soloist on Jack Wilkins (USF Director of Jazz Studies) latest CD "Dear Old Stockholm", recorded in Stockholm. Music from this CD will be performed on this concert. This music
is inspired by the strong Swedish jazz scene, and includes Wilkins and Danielsson arrangements of Swedish folk songs, jazz classics associated with Sweden, an other selections. Jan Allan will also
perform music by Swedish composers and arrangers with the USF Jazz Ensemble I on this special evening.
