USF Chamber Winds: Birdsong and other Nice Tunes

Event Type: Music
Facility: School of Music (MUS)
Presented By: School of Music
Description:
Featured on this concert will be the pianistic skills of Dharshini Tambiah as she performs the mini-concerto by Olivier Messiaen entitled Oiseaux Exotiques, or Exotic Birds. Messiaen based his
composition on actual birdsong with which he was intrigued as a source for melody. As a compliment to Messiaen’s composition, we will be including another kind of bird song, the Suite in D by Arthur
Bird. The concert will also feature the Southeastern premiere of a new work by Mattthew Tommasini entitled Torn Canvases. Several other chamber works will be on the program conducted by various
master degree candidates.
