The USF Chamber Winds will be presenting a concert of music spanning the evolution of the wind section of an orchestra and the development of bands. It will not be in chronological order. The first
selection will be the music of Igor Stravinsky. Symphonies of Wind Instruments was one of the very first masterworks written for the modern wind orchestra. Our second selection with originate at the
beginning with the music of Gabrieli for brass choirs. Gabrieli has been attributed as the first composer to assign instruments to specific lines of music. And finally, we conclude with the delightfully romantic
music of Arthur Bird’s Suite in D, written at the height of the period during the 19th century when composers began to focus on producing quality music for groups of winds. John C. Carmichael will
be the conductor. |
