Florida Wind Band: Be Glad Then, America

Event Type: Music
Facility: School of Music (MUS)
Presented By: The Florida Wind Band, Inc.
Description:
Florida’s premiere professional concert band, the Florida Wind Band, will be presenting a patriotic program honoring our freedoms, our service men and women and our country’s 235th birthday. It is
entitled Be Glad Then, America and will be held in the beautiful new concert hall that is in the spectacular new School of Music building on the Tampa campus of the University of South Florida.

The date and time for the concert is Tuesday, June 28, 2011, beginning at 7:30 pm.

The concert performance will feature selections intended to honor or pay tribute to various aspects of American history, both as it is unfolding and from the past. The program will include: American Civil
War Fantasy, A Hymn for the Fallen, Armed Forces Salute, Esprit des Corps march, Strategic Air Command march, Eternal Father, Strong to Save, America the Beautiful, Variations on America, The
Stars and Stripes Forever, along with several other selections.

Tickets may be purchased through the USF Ticket Office, 974-2323. If bought before the concert, the price will be $8.00 for students/seniors and $12.00 for general admission. Current and Veteran
military personnel in uniform will be admitted free of charge. Tickets bought on the day of the concert will be $10.00/$15.00.

It is the mission of the Florida Wind Band to become the first fully professional, fully civilian wind band
in American this century. Since there are about thirty-plus million people in the U.S. who have had some school band experience, and since many of those people have moved on various successful
careers both in music and other areas, there is a need for the existence of such a group to validate the activity at every level. In that regard, and because there is overwhelming evidence that music
study has numerous positive effects on young and old alike, we continue to strive to accomplish our stated mission.
