Description: | | The USF School of Music is pleased to present the North American recital debut of pipa
virtuoso Zhan Jingyi, pipa teacher at Shaanxi Normal University and a USF visiting scholar for
January 2016-17. The program will include a variety of solo and duo works, including the eloquent At a Border Fortress expressing the sad feelings of Han Dynasty noblewoman Wang Zhaojun, and the
thrilling Disarmouring portion of the famous pipa piece commemorating the Battle of Gaixia in 202 BC.
An adaptation of Romance de Amor for pipa and lute, from the film Forbidden Games, will also
be included (with John Robison, lute). Featured on the program will be Blessing, an engaging
concerto by modern composer Zhao Jiping for pipa and piano (with Ying Long, piano).
