USF SYCOM: Surround Sound Concert

Event Type: Music
Facility: School of Music (MUS)
Presented By: School of Music
Description:
SYCOM presents new works for real-time, surround-sound electronics by USF composition students. Utilizing the new state-of-the-art technology and playback capabilities of Barness Recital Hall, these
new works will be projected into the space from all directions. The listeners will be immersed in sounds ranging from experimental synthesis to beat-oriented sequences to electronic works that are
generated and spatialized in real time. All of the works included on this program were created in SYCOM's Studio A by current and recent students of the Real-Time Performance course taught by
Visiting Professor Baljinder Sekhon.

Directed by Professor Paul Reller, SYCOM (Systems Complex for the Recording and Performing Arts) is a suite of electronic music studios at the University of South Florida School of Music offering a BM
and an MM in electronic music studies. Through SYCOM and degree programs in Electronic Music and Electro Acoustic Music, there are many options for students interested in electronic music
recording and performance. From an introductory course in electronic music to courses in live, interactive performance, SYCOM offers a seven-semester sequence that covers analog synthesis,
digital sequencing, and real-time programming. Former students of SYCOM have carried out computer-music events throughout the United States and have continued their studies at many first-
rate institutions. The USF Composition Department offers bachelors and masters degrees in music composition and electronic music. The SYCOM studios and USF Composition department include
first-rate facilities and comprehensive curricula in electronic and acoustic composition.
